“Of
the Jews and Their Lies”
Original title in German: “Von den Juden und Ihren Lügen”
Written in 1543
Part One – The Introduction
This is certainly not my favourite page on our site, for it contains a
very sad tale of a man who is generally highly regarded by many as the
“Great Reformer.” However, not many know much about this man and
his exploits in his 
later
years as he came to hate the Jewish people so much that he wrote a work that
would cause great evil upon them as well the death of many Jews at the time and
millions more later, for it was Hitler who used this very work by Luther to
justify his actions to slaughter the Jews across Europe!
Although it had started earlier it was in 1542 when Martin Luther
decided to put pen to paper about his ultimate hatred for the Jewish people.
When completed in 1943 he circulated his new and very last book entitled “Von den Juden
und
ihren Lügen”
wherein he heaped monstrous and evil accusations against the Jewish People.
In his book, he
expressed his opinion of the Jews by calling them, “venomous and virulent,” “thieves and
brigands,” and “disgusting
vermin,” and encouraged Christian princes to take the following
action; “their Synagogues should
be set on fire and whatever does not burn up should be covered or spread over
with dirt so that no one may ever be able to see a cinder or stone of it.”
He
urged that “Jewish homes,”
be “broken down and
destroyed.” and that the “Jews should then be placed under one
roof, or in a stable like Gypsies, in order that they may realise that they are
not masters in our land.” Luther
continued “These poisonous worms
(the Jewish people) should be driven
out of the country for all time like mad dogs.” Many of the
Protestant rulers of the times relied on Luther’s
political advice, and through his maniacal tirades against Israel resulted in the expulsion of Jews from Saxony in 1543.

In 1920, a young lecturer gave an impassioned
address entitled; “Why we are
against the Jews.” The name of this young speaker was none other
than Adolph
Hitler. He declared, “It is the German duty to arouse, whip up and incite the
instinctive repugnance of the Jews to even a higher pitch.” The
political party that Hitler controlled attracted
masses of like-minded Germans. The Nazis set themselves the task to cleanse Germany and to
restore the supremacy of the Aryan race and rescue the German, Teutonic peoples
from the “cancerous species of
Jews and other non-Aryan subcultures.” Hatred was the main feature
of Hitler’s programme, hatred of the Jews,
hatred of Slavs, Gypsies, and other so-called inferior people. Even the
mentally and physically handicapped were hated and doomed for extermination.
Millions cheered Hitler as he promised to make Germany great
again. They also cheered as Hitler again and again
quoted from Luther's book “Of the Jews and their Lies”
and promised to drive “the
disgusting vermin, the Jews, out of existence for all time like mad
dogs.” He wasted no time in carrying out his programme of hatred,
just like Luther did back in 1543.
Inconsistency and
violence characterised Luther’s
utterances in most fields, but perhaps in none with more disastrous
consequences than in his statements regarding the Jewish people. Due to his
vituperative anti-Jewish polemics, the Lutheran Church,
unlike that which owed its foundation to John Calvin,
retained all the superstitious abhorrence of the Jews, which they inherited
from the medieval Roman Catholic Church, who, like many Christian harlot
denominations, continue to proclaim that “the
Jews killed Christ” or were at least
responsible for it. This Christian lie was again highlighted in Mel Gibson’s movie, “The
Passion of Christ.” They all seem to forget that not all of the Judeans/Israel
rejected Yahushua (Yeshua) the Messiah, for every early believer was a Hebrew.
As were all the apostles who wrote the New Testament! Indeed the unfaithful of Israel rejected
Him just as the almighty’s prophecy had foretold! But, what does the Word
of our Heavenly Father matter when they can make a pawn of the Jews!
The
tragedy is, there are those in the world, who even
claim themselves to be Christians that continue the evil, applauding Martin Luther
and Hitler. However, true Christians who genuinely
believe and follow the Bible (like those written about by the author in his
book Dutch Tzedakah) will acknowledge the Jewish people according to the
Scripture and reject anti-Semitism in all its forms!
