The Tabernacle

---Sharing our Lord and Saviour Yahushua, Yeshua the Messiah to the World!

Please Note: On this site we prefer to use the actual Name of our loving Heavenly Father as it was written in the Hebrew and thus you will note that we will use the four letter “Memorial Name” of   - YHVH, which is pronounced as YaHVaH or YaHWaH, also we will use our Heavenly Father’s title - Elohim rather than “God” and we need to remember that “Elohim” (God) is NOT a name but an attribute, a title! In addition we also love to use the actual Name of our beloved Messiah (written in Hebrew as “Mashiach” and in Greek as “Christos”), which is  - Yahushua (Yeshua in short) for this is the Messiah’s original Hebrew Name as given to Him in Luke 1:31. This was the only Name ever used when He was on the earth by His disciples and His followers for hundreds of years thereafter. However it was changed to a foreign name by the new church, which later became known as “the greater Roman catholic church.” Occasionally, we may also use other Hebrew or Greek names and words in our studies, but these will be translated when they are used, either the first time in a study or at various times as needed for clarity. For an explanation of YHVH’s most Holy and blessed “Memorial Name” and the wonderful Name of our Messiah: Please read The Memorial Name.

The three levels of learning & understanding of the blessed Word of YHVH Elohim (the Lord God):

When we read and study the blessed Scriptures, the Word of YHVH Elohim as a believer in Yahushua the Messiah, we should keep following three steps in always mind for they are a valuable guide and it will certainly provide us with guidance and illuminate the sheer beauty and the fullness of YHVH’s most blessed Word.

1. Who was YHVH Elohim, blessed be His Holy Name speaking to?

2. When was it said?

3. How was His Word understood at the time it was spoken/given?

I do believe that these three points are most relevant to our understanding of 1. What the Almighty is saying at the time - 2. As well as what it means to us today - and 3.  Indeed to you and me right now!

I pray that these studies on the Feasts of YHVH will be a blessing to you and that they will provide you with “a helmet, armour and the shield of YHVH Elohim (the LORD God)” and that we are made ready to share His Word with those who are need of Salvation and His love, which can only come through faith in our Heavenly Father and His Anointed one, Yahushua the Messiah, or as many throughout the world say it “Yeshua.”

Shalom - Peace be with you, in Yahushua THE Messiah!

“Scriptural Truths” & “Ha Davar Word Studies”

Introduction:

This study is based on a message I gave back in the early 1980s and have repeated it once or twice since in various parts of the world. There is no doubt that the Book of Yo’el (Joel) is powerful, especially its first four verses, although there is so much more to this book and I have included the highlights, which will be followed up by “Page Two” containing an overall summery, complete with commentary and verses from each chapter.

However, on this study you will discover that I did include several other Scriptural events into the Yo’el study, such as a special look at the prophet Eliyahu (Elijah) and two verses from Yeshayahu (Isaiah) chapter 40. Of course this study has been modified as the original was for the spoken word, and I pray that you will be blessed by this rather big study, but it is I believe worth while reading. I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on it!

A Study on the Book of Yo’elJoel:

The book of Yo’el must be understood before we can tackle, let’s say the book of Revelation. The phrase; “The Day of YHVH (the LORD),” or in “that Day” occurs some 70 times in the book of Yo’el, the question we might ask – “What Day?” It will be the day when all living shall praise His Name, for it will be in that day when YaHVaH Elohim, blessed be His Holy Name, shall be supreme in all the earth!

However, if we look at the earth right now, it will seem that man is having the upper hand with the help of Satan for it is quite obvious that this evil and wicked l world is heading for a catastrophe unless something happens soon! But sadly we know from the Word that it will only get worse, but blessed be the Lord all this will change in “the Day of YHVH.”

Revelation Chapter 4 verse one and goes right through to the end of the book speaks about the “Day of YHVH.” We need to have some comprehension what that phrase meant to the Children of Israel, for the book of Revelation is very much a Hebrew book, and I honestly do not think that many believers in Messiah actually realise this.

Is the Old Testament out of Date?

In the book of Revelation there are 298 quotations from the Tenach (Hebrew for Old Testament). Thus beloved, if we do not understand the Old Testament it will be impossible to understand the book of Revelation in its right context. Sadly many think that the Old Testament is out of date and obsolete. VERY WRONG, it is very much the opposite.

Others will tell you that “In the Old Testament there is the God of wrath.” whilst in the “New Testament there is the God of Love!” Let me try and test this and see if this is really true.

Messiah Yahushua said in Mattityahu - Matthew 22:37–40.

“You shall love *YHVH your Elohim (God) with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And the second is - you shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the prophets.”

*Please Note: The Tetragrammaton or the four letter Hebrew Name of  YHVH was used in the original Hebrew texts of the Brit Chadashah (New Testament. This can be proven without a doubt, read YHVH – the Divine Name in the Gospels.

This beautiful statement by our Lord and Redeemer Yahushua is total proof that the New Testament contains the Gospel of love! But for all those who have said that … “In the Old Testament we read of God sending Israel out to war and to kill, which is far from a God of love.”

Obviously we need to put things back into perspective for frankly, it is so easy to speak as we live in a totally different age. One, Israel had just come out of pagan Egypt and many of Israel had only just returned to the faith of the one true Elohim, the Elohim of Avraham, Yitzchak (Isaac) and Ya’akov (Jacob) as many had resorted to worshipping Egyptian gods whilst they were living in Egypt for 400 years. But now they had returned to their faith and they had been reminded by the Almighty at Sinai regarding the Sabbath Law that had been from the beginning as well as about the foods that were clean and unclean that also goes back to creation and we know from the Word Noah clearly understood this for it is written in Bereshis – Genesis 7:2 & 8. In addition they were given some additional laws to keep such as the Feasts of YHVH and others, etc.

However, whilst in the wilderness Israel was frequently surrounded by various pagan tribes and nations that were practicing some of the most evil and hideous rituals and sacrifices imaginable to their deities. One which has been wrongly understood by Israel is related to the verse “You shall not seethe (boil) its kid in its mothers milk.” Shemos - Exodus 23:19 & 34:26. Israel because of this verse do not eat meat and milk together, however, the prohibition had nothing to do with food whatsoever, but this prohibition was entirely related to the pagan sacrificial “boiling of babies (human and animal) in their mothers milk” to pagan gods. Thus, the practices of these pagan kingdoms and their people were so evil in the extreme in the sight of YaHVaH Elohim, when they came against His children He allowed them to fight and destroy them. We also need to remember that all of these enemies had clearly heard about the power and the love of the Elohim of Israel and what He had done for His people as well to Egypt for it is clearly stated in the Word, yet they still dared to come against the Children of Israel.

However, the Tenach - Old Testament is a Book of great love! Let me prove it!

“You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbour as yourself: I am YHVH.” Vayikra - Leviticus 19:18.

“And you shall love YHVH your Elohim (GOD) with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength.” Davarim - Deuteronomy 6:5

Thus, we now discover that our blessed redeemer Yahushua did not introducing a new law after all when He named the two “Love commandments.” The truth is Our Saviour was simply quoting the Scriptures, and yes, the only Scriptures that existed in those days were the parchment scrolls of The Tenach (Old Testament), and the first part came directly from the “Law of Moshe” the famous “Shema” - “Hear O Israel” Deut 6:4-5, being the Jewish confession of faith that is recited by every Jew twice a day; and the second part “Love your neighbour”  was taken from the book known for its exposition of the ceremonial law, the book of Vayikra – Leviticus 19:18.

Thus once again we learn that the Tenach (Old Testament) is the Foundation of the Brit Chadashah (New Testament), for if you take it away we would loose the entire foundation of, lets say a building sitting on unstable ground, and it would soon crumble and disappear.

Tragically the pagan “Church of Rome” has tried very hard from the beginning to turn the Messiah into a Gentile that is why Messiah Yahushua’s Name was changed to a totally foreign one “Jesus,” which has no meaning whatsoever and has no Hebraic background! See Strongs: NT:2424: Iesous (ee-ay-sooce'); of Hebrew origin [OT:3091]; Jesus (i.e. Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites. OT:3091: Yehowshuwa` (yeh-ho-shoo'-ah); or Yehowshua (yeh-ho-shoo'-ah); from OT:3068 and OT:3467; Jehovah-saved; Jehoshua (i.e. Joshua), the Jewish leader: Jehoshua, Jehoshuah, Joshua.

That Sun worshipping Roman emperor Constantine also created two new feasts that are completely based on pagan origins. Yet, tragically the vast majority of the Churches sadly celebrate these feasts to this very day - tragic!

However, Praise YaHVaH Elohim, more and more of the faithful are returning to the Truth of the Word of Elohim, and they are once again celebrating the Scriptural “Feasts of YHVH” as prescribed in Vayikra – Leviticus 23 and they have ditched the feast of the goddess ““Ishtar”” (Easter) and the Roman Catholic “Mass for Christ” which they pretend is the Messiah’s birthday, which we all know it is not, for neither sheep or shepherds sleep in the fields in the freezing cold of a snowy winter in Israel! For the vast majority of Church scholars do know that our Lord and Saviour was born during one of the major two of the Feasts, which is either in March/April or September/October, and that is when men from all over the world come to Jerusalem on pilgrimage! But we need to go back to the book of Yo’el - that is if I have not lost you with my aforementioned shock revelations!

We are looking at the book of Yo’el to gain an insight into Hebrew thinking in both the Tenach and the book of Revelation:

Today we are going to take the students approach to the book of Joel, thus we want to know; who is the fellow who wrote it? Where did he live? What was his motivation? Who was he talking to? What did he hope to achieve? Did he really intend to have an immediate response in the 9th.century BCE, or was he really talking about the 20/ 21st.century AD?

These are all valid questions to ask! But we cannot get the best out of the book, unless we are able to answer them.

Lets us start with chapter 1 and Verse 1 – commencing with the verse in Hebrew, then the translation.

Davar YaHVaH A’sher Hayah El Yo’el Ben Pethu’el.” - “The Word of YHVH that came to Yo’el, the son of Pethu’el.”

If you have read any of the other studies online you will already know that names play a very important role in the Word of Elohim. Let us first look at Yo’el’s father’s name. “Pethu’el” … “Pethu” means “persuaded,” or “from,” and “El” simply means “Elohim” – (God). Therefore, Yo’el’s father’s name translates as, “from Elohim,” or “persuaded of Elohim.”

However it was Pethu’el made a bold and powerful statement in the days, when his people had gone astray, when he decided to give his son the name “Yo’el,” for his name translates as “YaHVaH is Elohim.” This was an important statement for that time, for sadly during his lifetime many false gods were worshipped amongst his people who were being stylised as drunkards (1:5) and the people were no longer providing the priests at the temple with the required offerings (1:9) thus they had at large had forgotten their Elohim, the Elohim of their fathers. Thus, Pethu'el made a clear statement to Israel by naming his son Yo’el. Israel, know and understand that YaHVaH is our Elohim!

Yah or YaHVaH is the blessed Memorial Name of Elohim, which the people of Israel sadly will not use even though He commanded it to be remembered. However, they use alternative terms like “HaSHEM– Hebrew for “the name” or Adonai for “the LORD,” with LORD written in all Scriptures in capitals, instead of using YHVH - .

The reason for Israel uses their excuse may be found in Shemos - Exodus 3:15.

“Moreover Elohim said to Moshe, ‘Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: YHVH Elohim (the LORD God) of your fathers, the Elohim of Avraham, the Elohim of Yitzchak, and the Elohim of Ya’akov, has sent me to you. This is My Name forever, and this is My Memorial to all generations.’”

Because in the Hebrew, the rabbis claim that the word “forever,” Le’Olam, is written defective, it could be read as Le’Allem.”

Le’Olam” means “forever” and “Le Allem” they say means to “conceal,”

Therefore the Rabbis found it to be an allusion that the four letter Name of YHVH Elohim, YaHVaH, should be concealed. Now that is after having used it for millennia!

However, it is rather strange but for some 18 times the very same word “Le’Olam” occurs in the Word, written in the very same way as in Shemos - Exodus 3:15, thus in the defective manner. However, each time rabbis translate it, and they insist that it means as absolutely “Forever,” i.e. The promise Elohim makes to the Children of Yisroel in Shemos - Exodus 32:13;

“I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and I will give your descendants all this land I promised them, and it will be their inheritance le’Olam - forever.’”

Due to the error of the rabbis, whenever the Memorial Name of Elohim appears in the Tenach, it is read as “Adonai – LORD,” or “HaShem, the Name.” However, at the same time, the Hebrew word for “Memorial” is “Zecher,” which literally means – “to proclaim,” or “mention.” Should the blessed Memorial Name of Elohim have been concealed or mentioned? Read the authors study - The Memorial Name.

In our Messianic fellowship and in others, we will not uphold the rabbinic Law or their ways, but desire to follow the Word of YaHVaH Elohim. Yet it has been said to me, “but brother, it seems that you do not respect the rabbis?” Frankly, no I do not, for they teach error, and lead Yisroel away from Yahushua the Messiah? Due to Yisroel not proclaiming the Name of Elohim, they have lost their way, and as the Word proves, in the past they and so many false prophets so often turned to other god’s and rejected their promised Mashiach!

Thus, Pethu’el gave his people an important statement, that indeed YHVH is the only Elohim … not those blocks of stone some of the people were worshipping at the time! Yes, there is a real confrontation here, between Elohim and the gods.

The book of Daniel also shows this charge in every chapter between Elohim and the god’s. The book of Yo’el is written very much in the same vain. The world has changed very little, only those who are covered by the shed blood of the Lamb, stand apart. Yes our Cities, States, Countries as well as the world at large are worshipping other gods, the gods of the self being the, I, me and myself, full of greed, lust and vice, etc. Then the vast majority of human beings on this planet worship anything from stone, pagan, false or even mere human gods and there is even one who pretends to be “Jesus” reincarnated, such as one man in Queensland Australia, and yet he has thousands of followers living on his multi million dollar compound, all paid for by them. Sadly, I have found it all too true that not many really want the TRUTH of Elohim, but so many will accept a false doctrine or a lie, for the truth is, the lie offers what they want the easy way out! Living in the truth of Elohim means having to making changes in our lives and living according to His will! But, these days it is just like it was in the time of Yo’el, sinfulness, the self as well as paganism is sadly rife.

The sad fact is, it is also rife in the church that at large follows the customs so cleverly introduced by the Evil One, which he cleverly did through the “Roman Catholic Church” which is based on the Babylonian religion with bits of what seems like “christianity” thrown in, and its evil instigator of many new doctrines, who was a man who worshipped Mithra the sun god until the day he died, being emperor Constantine, who dared to introduce many pagan influences into the church! Then the King James’ translators also played a part as they are mostly responsible of naming that pagan feast ““Ishtar” - Easter.” That was cleverly disguised as being a Christian feast with some Christological details, but with so many pagan traditions attached to it. Although Emperor Constantine always intended it to be the feast of “Ishtar”! Today, much of the Church upholds the “traditions of men,” which is also a god to many. As a Jew, I had to threw away all my Jewish traditions, for I knew them to be sinful, but sadly Christians, simply cannot see the tradition of man that was forced on them, and sadly the consequences will come down on them in that time of the wrath of YaHVah Elohim, unless they repent and “Return again unto Me and I will return unto you!”

Have you any idea about the Gods of the Cults and the New Age? Well here is just an example, and I will certainly not be able to cover them all!

There is the “Krishna’s” Now they the Great Nothing Karma? Karma what? They will tell you that it is a reincarnation to Human and have we not heard all those fascinating stories about, “I was Cleopatra”, etc. The truth is the Maharishi introduced this brand new idea to the Beatles, for the original reincarnation is from human to an animal, and when you have reached the highest level of Karma you will have finally become what? “A RAT!” Yes beloved, the lowest form of life is their highest level. No thank you who would want Krishna!

I love the “Jesus” of the Cults for frankly it really becomes a joke really! The Mormons believe in principle that God had two sons and that Jesus (the good one) is Satan’s (the evil one) brother.” When a Mormon (Latter day saint) reaches the highest lever of their cult dies, they inhabit a planet (with a wife I suppose) and have two sons another Jesus and Satan and they start the whole earth process all over again somewhere else. Thus there must be life out there????

JW’s believe that “Jesus is the Arch Angel Michael and that he is a mere man. They created the false name of Jehovah, and thus their church name is also false! The Scientologists are a money making machine who trap people in believing that their founder discovered their god, an alien, and yes their stupid well to do followers are brain washed through their game playing instruments and pay thousands of dollars a time! I will conclude with the Scientology who believes in the ascended master. Well do you not feel sorry for these poor deluded people for they will have to face the Two Witnesses during the Great Tribulation and go through the time of Elohim’s Wrath!

Beloved, it is simply astonishing; once man has rejected the truth, he tends to fall into a life of traditions, lies, and pagan gods and beliefs.

Let us return to the book Yo’el and read chapter 1:2.

“Hear this,” (or better “listen,”) you old men and give ear all you inhabitants of the land.”

Why does the Lord make specific mention the older generation? The book of Yo’el was written around 835 BC give or take. Thus, the old men were around in 930 BC, when things were good and not like it was then. These men could remember the faithful of those days, who loved and worshipped YaHVaH Elohim, the Elohim of Avraham, Yitzchak, and Ya’akov, and of the days when they were blessed with rain and the fields were bursting with provision.

To understand the things of those times, we need some dates. Dates and places are therefore very important in Scripture.

Let us therefore look at the dates the books of the prophets were written. These dates are all approximate of course. In the case of Ezekiel, he prophesied over a long period, thus, the date is only the starting point. However, it is good to get things in order.

Book (regular names)                 Date

Joel                                                        835 BC. (Most likely during the reign of King Jo’ash).

Jonah                                          782.

Hosea / Amos                             760.

Isaiah                                          739.

Micah                                          735.

Nahum                                        650.

Zephaniah                                   640.

Jeremiah                                              627.

Habakkuk                                    609.

Ezekiel                                        593.

Obadiah                                      587.

Haggai                                        520.

Zechariah                                             520.

Malachi                                        433 . The Jewish Tenach has these books in a different order.

These Books covers some 400 years – between 835 and 433 BC, thus is also important to note that many of these prophets came before the 1st.Assyrian invasion. However in the book of Yo’el, we see that there is both prophecy as well as history.

We can break it down even further. First, we find History, then retrospect and Prospect. That is what Yo’el is all about. Prospect, Retrospect and History. The key phrase of the book is the same as that in the book of Revelation. And you will find that this phrase is used some 5 times … “The Day of YHVH.” In chapters 1:15 – 2:1, 11, 31 & 3:14. I believe it is always good to look at the Word, by the occurring phrases, which makes it simpler to break up a book into manageable portions, thus making the Word easier to follow and understand.

There is another phrase, or word which occurs in this book … “Gather the elders in the congregation” 1:14 – “Gather the congregation and the elders” 2:16 – “Gather the nation” 3:2 - and “Gather together(speaking to all nations)” 3:11.

It is not easy to make a clear-cut distinction between the paragraphs of Yo’el, because for our point of view, there is a great deal of it is history. As per example, when Yo’el was speaking the events of chapter 1 had already happened, it is in the past tense. However, chapter 2 had not yet occurred even though two verses were written in the past tense, or better said, they were written in the “prophetic past tense.”

If you are wondering what that means, let me explain. Just look at Yeshayahu - Isaiah 53, where the prophet speaks in the future, looking back at an event, which had not happened yet.

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” Yeshayahu - Isaiah 53:5.

That is what is called, written in the future, past tense and Yo’el writes just like that. What I am doing here is giving you a general outline of Yo’el in order that you will understand the whole of it.

Shortly, I shall go into the detail of what chapter 1 verses 1 to 4 are all about!

But here is a short analysis of the three chapters.

Ch 1.           Is about the locust plaque that has already happened.

Ch 2.           Is about judgements, which was yet to happen. Yo’el exhorts for repentance, YHVH then promises eventual “pouring out of the Spirit.”

Ch 3.           Is in prospect. A view of what has happened in the past, thus let us be careful what is going to happen in the future.

We will look at this, as we venture through the book of Yo’el.

Some of you may already be asking, “well brother, when are you getting to chapter 2:28, and the dreams and visions bit?”

Let me say right here and now, we must first get the book in order, so we may fully understand of what YaHVaH is saying to Judah at that time, and how this applies to us today! Sadly far too many have taken verses out of their context and it seems to some, that the book of Yo’el speaks primarily about dreams, and visions. Sorry this is NOT the case! It is one on the things Yo’el said would happen, in the future tense – in prophecy! Therefore we should understand this Hebraic Tenach (Old Testament), in order that we will be able to fully understand the equally Hebraic Brit Chadashah (New Testament), especially the difficult sections such as the Book of Revelations, for as I said it is made up mostly from the Tenach! As are many parts of the Gospels, as we have already seen, and I have shown you just one example.

Let us now read Ch 1:3.

“Tell your sons about it, and let your sons tell their sons, and their sons the next generation.”

This verse provides the emphasis of family responsibilities for parents to teach their children. Especially in these modern days, parents at large have disobeyed this command, thus we have seen so much erroneous teachings enter into our schools, including the Christian ones, who now generally teach about evolution, which has become the norm and almost the excepted belief amongst the average person on the street, thanks to the Media at large and the mostly Gay and New Age teachers! It is a tragedy! You may ask me, “Not Christian schools, brother?” Yes, sadly many Christian schools and Churches are guiding many of our children right into hell. Therefore, parents have a huge responsibility in the Lord, to teach them those things which are right and true! I went to a Church concert one Saturday evening and I could not believe what was being offered on the musical menu. Besides renditions of an evil well known pop group, singing about “Beelzebub,” a Queen song, there was that very, ha, ha, Christian rendition of, “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and other great bits of music, which belongs in the satanic gutter!

Please beloved, tell your children and teach them about the things of YaHVaH Elohim and about our Redeemer Yahushua … “For Messiah, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.” 1 Corinthians 5:7.

Now we come to the powerful verse 4.

“That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten.”

Now we are entering into some real meat of the Word! As a locust invasion had already occurred, the people of Judah would not have understood the deep meaning of the words Yo’el used in prophecy.

The four stages of the life cycle of the locust in this passage are, “Gazam”“Arbeh” - “Yalek” and “Chasil” in the Hebrew, and beloved these are not merely names, but numerically have a rich and an important meaning! The Hebrew alphabet as many will know also is a numerical system. For example – Aleph A = 1, Beth, B = 2, and so on. Therefore if we turn each of these words into the sum of years each of the four nations that possessed Jerusalem - 1. Babylon, 2. Medo-Persia, 3. Greece, 4. Rome, you will discover that these are the precise number of years that each nation occupied it!

Thus let us look a little closer into these four words.

Palmerworm =      the gnawing locust – Gazam = 50 years.

Locust =               the swarming locust  - Arbeh = 208 years.

Cankerworm =      the licking locust – Yalek = 140 years.

Caterpillar =           the consuming locust – Chasil = 108 years.

Go and check your history and you will find that these four nations governed Jerusalem for exactly those number of years. How great an Elohim we have, who knows all things, down to the last detail! The locust, Yo’el says, had eaten the vine, they had eaten all the bark of the fig tree and made it bare. Thus Yo’el cried out to the people of Elohim with this powerful warning.

Verse 7 tells us that the land had been eaten clean, and there was nothing left to even provide an offering unto the Lord.

“It has laid waste my vines and ruined my fig trees. It has stripped off their bark and thrown it away, leaving their branches white.”

The priests had nothing to do, they were commanded to gird themselves with sackcloth and mourn. The elders and all the people were now in mourning.

“Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.” Verse 11.

The people had to be ashamed. Why? They had to be ashamed of their sin, which had brought them to this time of mourning. It is a shameful thing for any land to suffer drought, or a plaque by the hand of Elohim, for it means they are living in sin and worshipping other gods.

Let me indulge you by deviating a little here!

We all know that the prophet Eliyahu – Elijah was a most faithful servant of Elohim, but at the very beginning of his recorded ministry he suddenly arrives at the Royal palace walks into the court, stands before the king and declares a powerful but a very short but stern message! Having done so he immediately turns his back on the king and walks out. Here we can see that Eliyahu had no fear of any man, as he obviously fully trusted his Elohim!

Those who have studied the Word and or history should know, when it comes to royal households, there is a list of set protocols that must be adhered to as commanded by the court. If anyone stands before the king, and speaks without consent, that person, according to royal protocol, should be automatically put to death. Whilst in the court, the king would raise the sceptre to give permission to approach him, and only then, the appointed person (who would be there only by prior arrangement) was permitted to speak. Even the queen would have to seek permission to speak whilst the king was in court.

But, here we see Eliyahu walking into the court, asking no questions and speaks to the king without prior permission. He then proceeds by disgracing the king with the declaration and he then humiliates him as he turns his back on him and walks out. Now, that is what I call “Chutzpah” (a Jewish word for impertinence!).

Let us quickly explore that scene and we will understand what Eliyahu said to Ahab, in 1 Melachim - 1 Kings 17:1.

“As YHVH, the Elohim of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there will be no dew or rain for these years, until I say so.”

To fully understand what the implications of his statement, we must consider the following.

(1) “As YHVH Elohim of Israel lives, before whom I stand.”

Here we see Eliyahu that gave his authority, for he stood before the king in the Name of YHVH!

(2) “There shall be no dew or rain for these years”

Eliyahu now threatens the king with a drought.

(3) “Until I say so” or “according to my word.”

These are Eliyahu’s concluding words, in which we see his immeasurable faith.

When Eliyahu said, “before whom I stand,” this was the massive insult to the king for it contained the following implication.

“Hey king, you might be sitting there on your throne, but I am not standing before you, I only stand with and before my Elohim.” (Paraphrased).

I firmly believe, as we read about Eliyahu’s stand before king Ahab that we the faithful in Messiah Yahushua can also stand before an evil world and act in full faith, even in the face of peril.

Thus in the case of Eliyahu, the sinful king and the nation would have to suffer physically with no rain, but also spiritually with the removal of the Word of Elohim, with the removal with Elohim’s man, the prophet Eliyahu.

However, Yo’el had a very different message, one that would see both the people and the nation conquered by not one but four nations over four different periods, and he even told them how long each one would possess Jerusalem for. But now we should ask the question, to whom was Yo’el really speaking? It might surprise you, but he was not speaking just to; 1. In Chapter One he addresses “all who live in the land” verse 2. 2. In Chapters Two and Three he does not address the Twelve Tribes of Israel as such, but instead he addresses the inhabitants of Jerusalem!

Look at 2:23 “Be glad children of Zion.”but in verse 1 we read “Blow the trumpet in Zion.” And again in chapter 3:20 he speaks of “Jerusalem” but does include “Judah” more in Chapter Three, because Jerusalem is the centre, the heart of Judah!

Yo’el limited his message and ministry mostly in and around Zion, or Jerusalem. When Jerusalem gets it right, the rest of the land will follow. It is the “let’s start at the top attitude.” He is not at all like Amos, who travelled to Babylon and Assyria and came back to Israel and spoke about what he had seen, and used local things to draw analogies from. What other nations does Yo’el speak about? He speaks about nations that are close, those that border the lands of Judah and Israel, such as Phoenicia (Tyre that is today’s Lebanon), Edom (Saudi Arabia), Philistine (Gaza) and Mitzrayim or Egypt.

Let us now take a look at chapter 2.

This chapter is a prediction of an event in the immediate future in Yo’el’s day, for he is calling the people to repentance!

“Blow the Shofar (trumpet) in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; for the day of YHVH is coming, for it is at hand.” Yo’el 2:1.

There is a description of how to blow trumpets in Bamidbar - Numbers chapter 10. There we read of two silver trumpets.

Silver is the metal of redemption. But why two trumpets, and why are there also two loaves of bread at Shavous (Pentecost)? This is beloved, because YaHVaH Elohim, blessed be His Holy Name, always intended to redeem two peoples, both the Children of Israel as well as the Gentiles, in order that in and through Yahushua THE Messiah they would be come ONE in Him! Read Ephesians 2:11 to 18.

Vayikra - Leviticus 23 gives us a clear picture of the “Feasts of YHVH,” which Israel and the faithful in Messiah are to keep! Each is a prophetic picture of the plan of redemption, which YHVH would provide, through Yahushua, His only begotten son, our beloved Messiah!

The first four Feasts have already been fulfilled.

(1) Pesach – Passover - The shed blood of the lamb.

(2) Hag HaMatzot - Unleavened Bread – Yahushua who was without spot and blemish.

(3) Bikkurim - Firstfruits – The resurrection

(4) Shavous – Feast of Weeks (50) – The outpouring of Ruach HaKodesh – the Holy Spirit upon the faithful.

After Shavous there is a space of four months, representing the age of the faithful in Yahushua. Then comes the fifth Feast, which is Yom T’Ruach, being The Feast of the Blowing of the Trumpet (the Shofar Rams Horn). Most believers in Messiah Yahushua have adopted the faith of the Messiah, the apostles and just like Shaul (Paul) we love to celebrate the seventh day Sabbath, for we are told in the Word, that “Yahushua is Lord of the Sabbath!” And remember that it was that pagan sun worshipping emperor who was the one who changed YaHVaH’s ordained Sabbath to a SUN-day and that is also why there are meeting in the churches such as sunrise worship meetings up on mountains watching the SUN rise, which is actually a pagan ritual that goes back over three thousand years and all I can ask you is this, guess who started that? Instead we should all delight in keeping the Sabbath as well as celebrating the “Feasts of YaHVaH” that our loving Heavenly Father gave us, for each of them speaks so clearly of our beloved Messiah Yahushua!

Thus the next feast to be fulfilled will be the Feast of Trumpets.

The prophetic nature of this feast is based on the sound of a Shofar (Rams Horn), and will be fulfilled next! But there are two “Trumpets” in Yo’el. Let us look at the second one as mentioned in 2:15, for we have  already read about the first one.

“Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a holy fast, and call a sacred assembly”

The trumpet in Verse 1 is the sound of Alarm, and in Verse 15 it is the sound of sacred assembly! Israel’s trumpet of alarm has already sounded and she has partially returned to her land in 1948, and to Zion (Jerusalem) in 1967. The Shofar for the faithful however, is close at hand and I believe that we are living in that generation as spoken of by Messiah, for all we have to do is to look at the blossoming Fig Tree – Israel! Israel has now partially returned. But it is not as yet complete, that is yet to happen! But we have seen prophecy being fulfilled in our own lifetime, and soon sadly we will see a cashless society, even though it may not as yet be the one that will be the Tribulation imposed one, but it is part of the beginning of the coming of the anti-Messiah! Indeed we are very close!

Beloved, tell your children about the things of the Lord, share it with the nations round about, but begin with proclaiming it unto Zion – Yerushalayim – We as the faithful should go and blow that trumpet of alarm in Zion and make a big noise, just as Yo’el did!

However we must do it right and be careful how to use the Word, for many mistranslate it, for let me briefly cover two verses that often quoted by believers who support Israel from the book of Yeshayahu – Isaiah taken from chapter 40:1-2.

Verse 1.

Nach’mu, Nach’mu, Ami Yomar Elohim” - “Comfort, comfort My people!" Says your Elohim.

The word that is translated as “Comfort” in Hebrew is “Nachum” which in Hebrew also means, “Repent.” Thus the Comfort being offered here is based wholly on having repented FIRST!

Verse 2.

“Speak lovingly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her, that her exile has been completed, that her sins have been forgiven; for she has received from YHVH’s hand, a double, for her sins."

Again I would like to deviate and teach you something quite remarkable based on this Scripture. You have already learned that “Comfort” is entirely related to “repentance”, for obviously YaHVaH Elohim does not bless the sinner! But He does comfort a repentant sinner! But now we come to those words related to verse two.

Yesyahuhu - Isaiah spoke the Word that Elohim had given him, that clearly stated, “She has received from YaHVaH’s hand double for all her sins.” What would really come “from YaHVaH’s hand” and what was meant by the word “double?” The word in Hebrew for "double" is “Kephal.” The first time this word is used in the Scriptures is when it speaks of the high priests breastplate.

“They made the breastplate square by doubling it; a span was its length and a span its width when doubled.” Shemos - Exodus 39:9.

The embroidered cloth behind the breastplate was foldeddouble – kephal” to form a pocket which would carry "the Urim and the Thummim."

“Then he put the breastplate on him and he put the Urim and the Thummim in the breastplate” Vayikra - Leviticus 8:8.

Obviously, “kephal – double” is a very special word with a particular meaning. Let us look at other Hebrew words for double. Shemos - Exodus 22:4 states, “If the theft is certainly found alive in his hand, whether it is an ox or donkey or sheep, he shall restore doubleshenayim.” In this case, the thief would be fined double the value of the theft. In Bereshis - Genesis 43:12 another word for double is used when Ya’akov - Jacob exhorts his sons to take twice the price to be paid for corn, “Take doublemishneh … money in your hand.”

Thus, when we read in Yeshayahu - Isaiah “For she hath received from YHVH hand double (kephal) for all her sins” we can be assured this has a very special and an important and even a prophetic meaning. The Word of Elohim contains many wonderful treasures, especially when the Word is read in Hebrew with an understanding of the time, and to whom it was addressed?

YaHVaH blessed be He, speaks to His people in a language clearly understood and often using customs of the time. If we look back into the ancient customs of Israel the picture becomes so clear in relation to many Scriptures, but this is lost to the Church, but as a Hebrew believer I am fortunate to have understanding of the Scriptural Hebrew and ancient customs.

It is quite within the rules of Hebrew grammar to supply the indefinite article to help to convey the proper sense of a word into English. Thus, we can now translate the verse as follows, “For she has received from YHVH’s hand a double for all her sins” Was there such a thing as “a double, a kephal” Yes there was!

Let me illustrate this with a fictional story based on actual Hebrew customs from Biblical days.

In Jerusalem, a man named Joash is a well-respected and hard working spice merchant. Through no fault of his own, he falls into financial difficulty after he has to take time off to care for his ailing parents. Soon his bills pile up and he is unable to keep up with his payments. In due course the merchants of Jerusalem hold a special meeting and decide to nail a notice of debt to the city gates for all to see.

Several days later a wealthy man who knows Joash to be an honourable man, looks at the notice of debt and decides to do something for him in his hour of great need. He folds the notice double and writes on it, “If the creditors named on this list will apply directly to me I will pay the amounts owing by Joash the spice merchant upon proof of debt.” He then signs it, “Eliezer ben Ya’akov.”

Having done this, Eliezer ben Ya’akov has become what was known in those days as “A double” – “kephal.” The merchants soon called on Eliezer and received their payments.

Eliezer double folded the debt in the same way the cloth of the breastplate was folded. It is interesting to note that when the notice was folded, the details of the debt were hidden from public gaze. Eliezer was a good man, a fine double indeed!

This is what Elohim did for Israel and the entire world for that matter, for He provided the “Sacrificial Lamb” – “a double - kephal” and the story of Joash illustrates the point so beautifully. Yeshayahu - Isaiah 40:2 so clearly describes the loving mercy of YaHVaH our Elohim, blessed be His Holy Name!

“Speak comfort to Jerusalem … her iniquity is pardoned … she has received from YHVH’s hand A DOUBLE for all her sins.”

Beloved in the Lord, just think about it, what a wonderful Eternal Father we have, for He gave Israel “a double” – Yahushua, the Lamb of Elohim who shed His blood so that all who would believe and repent and be immersed would be redeemed from their sins. Now that is the same double every one needs in the world that are not saved as yet! Praise the Lord, many of Israel at the time did believe, for we know that for there were countless thousands of faithful after Messiah ascended into heaven. However, the nation at large sadly rejected Him,

As Elohim had spoken those famous words to Yeshayahu - Isaiah, He, like Yo’el, was not thinking of the houses and the walls as He addressed Jerusalem, but His words were aimed directly at the people, that resided within her walls. WE might then ask, “Did Elohim provide this double only for those that lived in the city of Jerusalem?” No! The Elohim of mercy provided a double for all Israel and for the entire world, for Israel and all Gentiles in order to make them one in the Body!

Yahushua the Messiah is our and Israel’s “kephal - double,” He took on Himself our debt of sin. For all who will believe in Him and repent of their sins are free from the debt of sin. Blessed be the Elohim of Mercy!

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” 1 Yochannan – 1 John 1:9.

We are to PROCLAIM – Cry out that Yahushua is Lord and Saviour that He shed His blood, in order that all who believe and repent are forgiven of their sins! This is the message we are to Proclaim boldly to Israel and unto all in this evil world. And we are to do this not in some underhanded, gently, gently way, but go boldly as YaHVaH Elohim directs through the Holy Spirit!

Our Lord Yahushua spoke very plainly to His people, He did not pussy foot around, as many believers tend to do in Yisroel these days! The same applies to the nations, we must boldly share the Word with them. And believe me, I have witnessed this, believers do not do this very quietly amongst the nations, there they actually proclaim it with great boldness. Why not to those, who Elohim calls – My People? Why must the faithful be so terribly careful, even to the point of not sharing the Word at all in Israel. Learn from Yahushua’s example and go forth to proclaim His Name, even if you have to suffer for it.

I have been told, but brother, IF we openly proclaim Yahushua as the Messiah in Israel, we will not be permitted to remain in there and the authorities will throw us out. Frankly, if that is the case, YaHVaH Elohim never called you to be there in the first place, for you were labouring in your own strength. (read: Labour with Elohim - God) You went there in your own strength and you were not called to be there by the Lord! If Elohim wants you there, He will find a way and make you effective in His service! Amen.

The Two Witnesses will Proclaim the Word at the gates of Jerusalem for 3 ½ years. From this we learn that Elohim provides them with the means, the powers to remain there. Be willing to proclaim to Israel, that if she accepts their Messiah and repent, his or her sins will have been forgiven!

Yo’el 2:21-27.

“Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for YHVH will do great things. Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree will bear her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength. Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in YHVH your Elohim: for He hath given you the former rain moderately, and He will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month. And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the fats shall overflow with wine and oil. And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, My great army, which I sent among you. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the Name of YHVH your Elohim that has dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed. And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am YHVH your Elohim, and none else: and My people shall never be ashamed.”

Yes, Israel, still has some good news ahead of her, she is still to enjoy the land of “Milk and Honey,”

I pray, beloved that we have understood what YaHVaH is saying to us in this Word.

Do you remember the day you first believed, repented, and accepted Yahushua as Lord and Saviour of your life? Do you remember that joy you had? Well, do not let this joy fail you. Just let the joy grow, as you grow in the Lord Yahushua! If the locusts had attacked you in your life, and I am speaking metaphorically of course, and that joy, and peace has diminished somewhat, please beloved, Return to the Lord Yahushua and be assured, He will lift you up and He will richly bless you!

Beloved, let me tell you the simple truth that there is a “locusts of tradition” in the lives of many in the Lord and so sadly I have to say also in the Church! The message to them is - Get back to the Word of YHVH Elohim and obey the Word Yahushua gave us

“You are My friends IF YOU DO AS I COMMAND YOU.” Yochannan - John 15.14.

We should all be living according to the example (Ippogramos) He has set. The point is this. The Shofar will sound very soon. Will you be ready? Will your children be ready, will your family be ready. Go and PROCLAIM the Word to your neighbours, workmates, and PROCLAIM it unto Israel with great boldness, and provoke them unto jealousy! If they will not hear it be for the reason of their pride, or their blindness, they, and the nations, will never be able to say, “But we were never told!”

In Conclusion: Summing up.

The author of the Book was the Prophet Yo’el, the son of Pethu’el - Yo’el 1:1 and the Book was written around 835 B.C.E.

Purpose of Writing:

Jerusalem and Judah, is the setting for the book and the region and the land is devastated by a vast horde of locusts. This invasion of locusts destroys everything, the fields of grain, the vineyards, the gardens and the trees. Yo’el symbolically describes the locusts as a marching human army and views all of this as divine judgment coming against the nation for her sins. The book is highlighted by two major events. One is the invasion of locusts and the other the outpouring of the Spirit. The initial fulfilment of this is quoted by Chefa - Peter in Acts chapter 2 as having taken place at Shavous (Pentecost).

What are the three Key Verses:

(1) “What the locust swarm has left the great locusts have eaten; what the great locusts have left the young locusts have eaten; what the young locusts have left other locusts have eaten.” Yo’el 1:4.

(2) “I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten...” Yo’el 2:25.

(3) “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.” Yo’el 2:28.

A brief Summary:

A terrible plague of locusts is followed by a severe famine throughout the land. Yo’el uses these happenings as the catalyst to send words of warning to Judah. Unless the people repent quickly and completely, enemy armies will devour the land as did the natural elements. Joel appeals to all the people and the priests of the land to fast and humble themselves as they seek Elohim’s forgiveness. If they will respond, there will be renewed material and spiritual blessings for the nation. But the Day of YaHVaH is coming. At this time the dreaded locusts will seem as gnats in comparison, as all nations receive His judgment.

The four stages (life cycle) of the locusts prophetically represents the four nations that would invade possess Jerusalem, Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome.

The overriding theme of the Book of Yo’el is the Day of YaHVaH, a day of Elohim’s wrath and judgment – the Book of Revelations. This is the Day in which Elohim reveals His attributes of wrath, power and holiness, and it is a terrifying day to His enemies. In the first chapter, the Day of YaHVaH is experienced historically by the plague of locusts upon the land. Chapter 2:1-17 is a transitional chapter in which Yo’el uses the metaphor of the locust plague and drought to renew a call to repentance. Chapters 2:18-3:21 describes the Day of YHVH in eschatological terms and answers the call to repentance with prophecies of physical restoration (2:21-27), spiritual restoration (2:28-32), and national restoration 3:1-21.

Practical Application:

Without repentance, judgment will be harsh, thorough and certain. Our trust should not be in our possessions but in YaHVaH our Elohim, blessed be His Holy Name! YaHVaH Elohim at times may use nature, sorrow or other common occurrences to draw us closer to Him. But in His mercy and grace, He has provided the definitive plan for our salvation, which came through Yahushua the Messiah, who gave His life freely and He shed His blood for our sins and exchanging our sin for His perfect righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). There is no time to lose. Elohim’s judgment will come swiftly and we must be ready. Today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2).

Seek YHVH while he may be found; call on Him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to YHVH, and He will have mercy on him, and to our Elohim, for He will freely pardon” Yeshayahu - Isaiah 55:6-7.

I wish to end this study with a special reading - Tehillim - Psalm 96:

“Oh, sing to YHVH a new song! Sing to YHVH, all the earth. Sing to YHVH, bless His name; proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.

Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples. For YHVH is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.

For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but YHVH made the heavens. honour and majesty are before Him; strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.

Give to YHVH, O families of the peoples, give to YHVH glory and strength. Give to YHVH the glory due His name; bring an offering, and come into His courts.

Oh, worship YHVH in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth. Say among the nations, ‘YHVH reigns; the world also is firmly established, it shall not be moved; He shall judge the peoples righteously.’

Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and all its fullness; Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before YHVH.

For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness and the peoples with His truth.”

Shalom in Messiah  - Yahushua the Messiah who is coming SOON!

May YHVH Elohim bless and keep you in the palm of His hand always, in Messiah Yahushua’s loving Name!

Yahushua said; “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the Prophets: They will all be taught by Elohim. Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from Him comes to Me. No one has seen the Father except the One who is from Elohim; only He has seen the Father. I tell you the truth he who believes has everlasting life.” Yochannan (John) 6:43-48.
